Introduction to Hatha Yoga:
This is the perfect place to begin. If you know of anyone who would like to start a yoga practice, but is hestitant due to lack of understanding, please encourage friends or family to begin here. This six week session guides the new students through the language that is used in the Dynamic Yoga Method, being taught at Jane's House. It introduces the students to the actions, how to move with the breath, what the movements of the spine are and such things as how much muscle energy to use when activating the body. This class encourages questions from new students to lessen any confusion of learning something new.
Start from the beginning as you learn the very basics of Hatha yoga. You will learn about breath and posture, and how to link them together in action. The series will teach you proper alignment so you can understand how the structure of your body supports and lengthens your spine. Once you have completed a session, you can continue on to another or enter into another class time.

Basic Yoga - A great class for beginners or for those who might be looking for less challenge in their practice. This class is a great foundation, building on the Intro series and preparing for level 1 or 1-2 classes.
Level 1: - classes are designed to meet three primary needs in the beginning student.
First, they teach the methods inherent in a traditional hatha yoga practice:
- postures and alignment (asana)
- the central actions that open and support the body (bandha)
- attention to breath and its quality (pranayama)
- focused attention (drishti)
- connecting the postures sequentially, and moving the body in synchronization with inhalation and exhalation (vinyasa).
Secondly, they familiarize the students to the working vocabulary used by the teacher to convey and reinforce the above techniques. This vocabulary is consistent through each level of class at the studio.
Third, they build the basic physical stamina and preliminary suppleness that is so beneficial to yoga practice and everyday life.
In the level one class, the postures are introduced in groups that reveal their structural and energetic relations, and specific consideration is taken to insure that the student becomes deeply sensitized to the position of the major joints of the body in the postures.
Pilates - Use your yoga training and put it to work in a focused class designed to combine yoga breath and posture awareness in a Pilates style exercise class. This class will use the movements of both methods to target muscles in the legs, torso, and abs to add strength, flexibility, and endurance to your fitness routine.
Level 2 - classes reinforce and refine the actions and methods learned in the level one class in a wider variety of postures and spinal positions. Instruction begins to focus on teaching students the art of self-correction by reinforcing awareness that adjustments in the body are accomplished through spiraling actions. Level 2 classes are accessible to the experienced beginner and continuing student.
Level 3 - class assumes that students have cultivated prior training in the first levels, and have a sense of how to modify challenging situations to accommodate the uniqueness of their own bodies. Level three classes introduce students to more challenging moving, and static postural variations and sequences: the full sun salutation is used in a variety of ways, holding times in postures is increased, and postures often require compound movements in the spine, i.e. forward bend and twist, or lateral extension and twist. Instruction on classic inversions (Head stand, and Shoulder stand) takes place and is refined at this level. The Level 3 class offers a chance to clarify and challenge our limitations in a fun and non-competitive atmosphere.
All Levels - The All Levels class continues the learning process begun in the basic classes, with a slight shift in emphasis. Sequences begin to focus on the form of a particular kind of practice: for example, hip openers, forward bends, arm balances, back bends. Instruction begins to focus more on preparation and compensation during the entire sequence. Each lesson will prepare you for seated meditation. Accessible to the experienced beginner and the continuing student.
Therapeutic Yoga -
This class is designed for those students who need supported postures in combination with specific movements targeted toward an individual need. This one hour class uses many props and hands-on attention for students unable to attend a regular scheduled yoga class. Class is limited to six pre-registered students.
Gentle Yoga: This class is open to all but is especially supportive for those with health concerns. Be prepared for a gentle class and to let go.
Prenatal yoga This class helps prevent common discomforts of pregnanacy while preparing the body for childbirth by stretching and strengthening the lower back, abdominal, and pelvic floor muscles, and by opening the hips and sacrum. The class will include deep breathing exercises to assist during times of stress or labor. Gentle postures, closing with a supported relaxation. Exactly what the expectant mom deserves!
